What do you do when you know you have something but you can’t find it anywhere?? Seriously, what do you do? I would welcome any ideas. I have a book that I just purchased sometime before Christmas. It had some wonderful patterns for gifts. I knew I didn’t have time to make those gifts for this past Christmas, but I bought the book so that I could make gifts for Christmas 2012. I was thinking about those gifts that I wanted to work on so I started looking for the book. BUT I DON’T KNOW WHERE IT IS!!!!

I looked in all the usual places that I might have stashed a book. There is the bookcase in the dining room – no not there! There is the bookcase in the sewing room – no not there! There is the bookcase in the bedroom – no not there. Which means I have to look in more unusual places. Is it with the newspapers and catalogs in the box in the living room? No. Is it mixed in with the stacks of quilting magazines under the cutting table in the sewing room? No. Is it in the basket next to the throne in the “reading” room? No, not even there!!

Where can it be? I have tried visualizing what I did with it, but December is a long time past and my memory doesn’t seem to stretch that far back. I have tried not thinking about it – because you know that the minute you stop looking for something, it shows up. That hasn’t worked so far. Mostly because I’ve made such a huge mess when sorting through all these places that it just reminds me whenever I look at the piles of stuff that I WANT THAT BOOK!!!!

The worst part is, I can’t even remember who wrote the book or what the title is, so I can’t even ask if someone has a copy that I could look at. It probably won’t turn up until the end of November, when I won’t have enough time to make any of the gifts for Christmas 2012!

I did find some projects that I haven’t worked on in a long time.

I called this my waiting room quilt. I worked on it a lot when I was helping my in-laws before they passed away. I spent a lot of time in waiting rooms of doctor’s offices, ER, etc. This isn’t finished, it’s only half of the quilt. I put this together in sections, quilted each section, then assembled the sections into what you see here. There are still quite a few sections to be added on.

This is an Amish Nine Patch Variation. I really like the way this turned out. It just needs to be quilted. I can’t quilt it by hand 1) because I don’t do hand quilting very well and 2) the fabric that I used was scraps of a sort of twill type fabric. It is too heavy to hand quilt. So I need to machine quilt it. But I can’t machine quilt an entire quilt on my home sewing machine. I really NEED a long arm quilting machine. Maybe some day this will get finished.
