Does anyone else do this sort of thing?

As I’ve said a time or two, I’d like to finish the Courthouse Steps quilt before my next quilt meeting. Which will be July 10. Which means I have exactly two weeks to finish quilting all the blocks, sew the sashing strips to each block, then sew all the rows together with more sashing. I would LIKE to have this done, but I know it is not the end of the world if I don’t get it done. Unfortunately, my brain seems to think that it will be the end of the world, because when I try to sleep at night, I have dreams about how much more I have to do to get it finished!

But, here’s the kicker, not only do I want to finish this quilt by July 10, I am also motivated to finish another flimsy by July 20th!! Ever since I read on Bonnie Hunter’s blog that she is in love with log cabin quilts, I’ve been thinking about how I could possibly finish my log cabin. I’m not quite crazy enough to think that I could have a finished quilt, but I would love to have it to the flimsy stage, so that I could show it to her when I go to her workshop. Here is one quarter of the quilt laid out on the design wall:

Let me explain something – I need 400 – 4.5″ blocks to make the quilt top. I have 184 finished blocks at this time. There are also an unspecified amount of partially finished blocks. In the next 24 days I would need to finish 216 more blocks. Each block consists of 17 individual pieces that need to be pressed after each piece is sewn on. Then sew 20 blocks together to make 20 rows. THEN sew 20 rows together to make a flimsy. All while trying to keep the pattern straight!!!!

I’m not finished yet!!

Also by July 20th, I need to have all the strips cut for the quilt that we are going to be working on for Bonnie’s workshop! Now that is a HAVE TO item. I can’t very well go to the workshop and not be prepared to sew anything!

Those are my goals. I also have a few less important things to take care of – like going to work, fixing meals, preparing for family reunions, visiting with family, playing with grandchildren, keeping the weeds down in the garden and cleaning house (note what is at the very bottom of the list!!!) Oh, and I might like to sleep once in a while!!

Why do I do this to myself!?! Surely there aren’t other people that make themselves crazy like this!! Are there?
