I’m closing in on a finish for Courthouse Steps!! Woo-hoo!! Of course that leaves me with so much more time on my hands!!

I will soon be starting back on my log cabin blocks, in an effort to get as much done on that as I possibly can before July 20th. That’s when I’ll be attending the Bonnie Hunter lecture/workshop and I want to be able to show her my log cabin, since she loves log cabins so much.

Speaking of the lecture/workshop – I need to decide what colors I’m going to use for the quilt we’re going to be working on. Bonnie’s pattern “Jared Takes a Wife” is actually a Blackford’s Beauty block. I actually made a quilt with this block pattern many years ago. DS#3 adopted it and loved it into pieces.

(Please don’t look very closely at this. It was an early quilt and I wasn’t very particular about points matching or getting chopped off!!)

So I sketched out the pattern on graph paper, then started coloring it to get some idea of what I might like. Here’s what I’ve come up with so far:

Please remember that these are just general suggestions of color. AND, since Bonnie is a scrap lover, any or all of the colors would actually have many various shades, since I will be using lots of different fabrics. So, for example, while I used only one red color on some of the blocks, I would in actuality, be using many shades of red.

Now let me give you some hints about what has been going on in the decision process.

Hint #1 – I really like a lot of the different ideas, but I had actually gone into my stash to see what the status of my double pinks was like.

Hint #2 – When DH was questioned, I put the double pinks back on the shelf! He also didn’t like anything “Easter-like”, so pastels and any 30’s reproductions were taken out of the running.

Hint #3 – Anything with blue is a DH favorite.

Hint #4 – DH was also not a fan of anything with more than 3 – 4 colors in a block.

I’m not sure if DH and I are on the same page about the use of scraps. I think he believes that one color on the sketch means one fabric. Of course, I don’t always pay attention to what DH thinks, especially when it comes to MY quilts!!!

I’m not sure which one I like better and I even, for one or two giddy moments, thought I should make each block in different colors, like the sketch, which would REALLY be scrappy. (Don’t encourage me in that, I do not have enough time to cut individual pieces for each block!!!)

So, what are your thoughts? Leave a comment and tell me if you like any of the suggestions, or if you have some other suggestion that I haven’t thought of. Thanks.
