I’ve got a confession to make.

I am not very good at naming quilts.

I am not able to think of something clever like, “Manic Organic”, “Tropical Fire”, “Toast and Jelly” or “Stairway to Heaven” (these are all random names of quilts that I pulled off the internet.)

Most of my quilts go by the pattern name. Or by the name of who it is for.

DH’s quilt

The closest I’ve come to naming a quilt is Chocolate Covered Strawberries:

With chocolate browns and pink prints (some with strawberries!) it still took a lot of thinking to come up with that!

I’ve been calling this one Courthouse Steps. That is a misleading name, because it is actually a VARIATION of Courthouse Steps. An actual Courthouse Steps would look something like this:

Note how the lights and darks are built up on opposite sides of the block. Obviously, my Courthouse Steps are not put together that way. The sewing order is the same as Courthouse Steps, in that you take a center square and sew strips on opposite sides, press them open and then sew strips onto the two other opposite sides. But I am too lazy to say Courthouse Steps Variation every time, so I just call it Courthouse Steps.

Even though I feel somehow lacking in creativity because I can’t come up with some clever name, I’m not going to let it stop me!! No! I shall go forward despite my handicap and continue to make nameless quilts!! And they will keep people warm in contented anonymity!!

Peace
