Some time ago a person I know asked if I would like some things that had belonged to his mother, who had passed away. He said there was a lot of fabric. Well, how could I turn that away!?! Eventually I received six or seven large boxes filled with a lot of fabric. But not just any fabric, oh no, this fabric had been embroidered on. Apparently, this lovely lady REALLY, REALLY liked to embroider!!

Here is some of what I pulled out of the boxes:

This is a lovely throw size piece with flowers of the month cross stitched on it. I am debating whether I should finish it as is, or make it a center medallion for a larger quilt.

Cross stitched quilt blocks, there are six of each design. Maybe set with alternating patchwork blocks!?!

“Footprints in the Sand” It’s half printed design and half embroidered.

There are 42 quilt blocks (this is six blocks finished on one piece of fabric) I also have matching pillow cases and a table topper with this design on it.

This is just a small sample from one box!!! I have enough embroidered quilt blocks to make quilts for a LONG, LONG time!! I really appreciate receiving this legacy of needlework from someone I never even knew.

But it turns out that the lady that did all this amazing work was actually related to me. Sort of. In the way that a lot of people in small towns are related to each other. I sat down and figured out the relationship last night. Here goes:

She is my late, ex, half, first cousin once removed, by marriage! Or, at least, that is what we’re going to call the relationship!

Kind of reminds me of this:
