NOTE: I do not have any idea why the photos are elongated in this post. They show correctly on my phone and on Facebook. But when you see them here they are all stretched out. Another mystery of modern technology.

I finally got around to assembling the flimsy for the Aqua Ocean Waves quilt. Woohoo!

Then I took a look at how the blocks were laid out.

I don’t know if I can explain this very well, but here goes.

The quilt is made with two blocks. One is the “hourglass” block – it has the large aqua triangles in the center. Two is the “pinwheel” block – it is all HST with a pinwheel at the center. When it is all put together the HST should “flow” together from block to block, with all the triangles facing in the same direction from pinwheel to pinwheel.

But somehow mine do not.

See how some of the adjoining triangles face one way and some face the opposite way, making diamond shapes? They shouldn’t do that.

And, before you tell me that all I have to do is turn the hourglass block, I tried that. But the pinwheel blocks on either side can’t be turned (no matter how you turn a pinwheel, it always faces the same way), so they will forever face the wrong direction and make diamond shapes that way.

There is a solution (actually two). One is to disassemble the pinwheels that turn in the wrong direction, reassemble them in the opposite direction and then put the blocks together into a flimsy.

The other solution is to say, “Heck with it, in the grand scheme of things, this is a minor mistake that most people won’t even notice. So I’ll just assemble it as it is and I’ll be one step closer to having a finished quilt.”  And finishing is a good thing.

When I noticed what was going on, I said a few choice words, which attracted the attention of DH. He is in favor of the second option for finishing. I, on the other hand, feel that I SHOULD go with option one – I just hate the idea of unsewing.

So, what do you think? Should I attempt to make it perfect by unsewing and making it right? Or should I call this a humility quilt and just finish it, mistakes and all. Enquiring minds would like to know.
